Overview

Giancarlo Schievenini obtained his law degree from Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City) and a Master's degree (LL.M.) in International Business Law from University of Paris II (Sorbonne-Assas).

He has focused his legal career on serving oil & gas industry companies, obtaining extensive experience in energy transactions and regulations. For the last years, he has advised oil and gas companies on all aspects of the development of their projects in Mexico. The clients he has advised include oil & gas companies of all sizes, from independents in the upstream and mistream levels focused on exploration, production and transport activities to IOCs, joint ventures and consortia as well as commercial banks and investment banks that provide financing for energy and infrastructure projects in Mexico.

He currently participates in the structuring and negotiation of non-recourse and limited recourse financings for energy and infrastructure projects in Mexico, including oil & gas fields development, gas transportation, roads and public-private partnerships, advising both lenders and developers.

Giancarlo is well-versed in federal and state regulation of natural resources in México, which has allowed him to advise the energy practice firm’s clients. He has also produced articles and analysis regarding amendments and proposals on the energy sector, including the important reform approved by the Congress in 2013.

In WLL Giancarlo is involved in the area of Project Finance, where he advises on legal aspects of infrastructure projects in Mexico, especially in the energy and infrascturucte sectors, where he advises governments, state owned companies, banks or investment corporations and sponsors on the structuring and negotiation of PPPs and infrastructure projects and in the course of major project finance transactions.

Currently, Giancarlo Schievenini a member of the Energy Commission of the Illustrious and National College of Lawyers of Mexico (Ilustre y Nacional Colegio de Abogados de México, A.C.), the Mexican Academy of Energy Law (Academia Mexicana de Derecho Energético, A.C.) and the Mexican Institute of Public-Private Partnerships (Instituto Mexicano de Asociaciones Público Probadas, A.C.).

Curently, Giancarlo is professor of "Law and Communication" in Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City.
